Getting Ready For Halloween!

Wow!   The stores are stocked with Halloween candy already!  Last year I bought some ahead of time to be prepared, and “OOPS“, we ended up eating it and had to restock!  So, this year I am waiting a little longer to stock up. However, I did buy a small amount of candy corn the other day so we could enjoy a little pre-Halloween treat!

Top 10 Rounding Activities!

My last post included many resources and ideas for rounding! Today I want to share 10 Activities for rounding!

1.) I love this video from Math Coach on You Tube because it uses number lines to help the students understand rounding. To turn it into an activity, have your students use dry erase boards to solve the problems with the video. Pause the video before the answers are shown to give your students time to work. Tips and Resources for Rounding

Rounding is an important math skill that is difficult for some students to really get. There are some great songs, rhymes, and “tricks” to help students memorize rounding rules.  However, it is important make sure students engage in activities to help them understand the meaning of rounding before the tricks. Really understanding the meaning helps them to remember the rules later and apply estimating skills in different situations. It also helps to build a stronger number sense and understanding of how mathematics works.
